Doors are notorious for being draughty and cold as well as casement windows. Doors and casement windows are both hung the same way from the side. when they are hung they need a certain amount of space so that the door or window can shut properly. This is so the leading edge does not bind on the door frame while closing when the door is closing.
People have been trying to come up with ideas on how to draught proof the doors for years. If the seal is not all the way round the door it will not be effective properly
Companies have been fitting a draught-proofing system that you use on sash windows. which does work, but once the brushes have worn in, they become redundant. In time they will also be not as effective from when they where first installed and become a costly exercise.

If you take a look at modern door frames, they must have an aqua-seal incorporated around the frame. This is a continuous seal around the without any breaks. this also keeps the weather away from the internal parts of the doors. With the weather being kept away from certain parts of the door then expansion is less likely to happen in the winter months.

This would not be able to happen with using a draught pile for windows. This is because the locks and the hinges will not allow you to make this continuous
The draught pile could also affect the door in the operation of opening and closing. When it comes down to changes in the seasons, with more moisture around in the air. With the doors being made of wood this can cause expansion of the doors. This influences the doors to bind on the frame when in the closed position.
If this is the case for example, then a small child or elderly person will find this quite distressing. This can become very dangerous in the event of an accident or emergency if they are on their own.

Sussex sash window restoration have looked at this possibility and have tried to resolve this. We came up with a method that they use in the European market. A company has invented a machine that you can router a weather/ water seal inside the rebate of the frame. This will compress the seal when the door is closed creating a complete seal around the door and the frame.
This invention is perfect for the problems that people have had, trying to beat the draughts coming in from the front door. Coming up with this idea of how-to draught-proof the external doors and windows is perfect. There is one tiny complication with a door is the threshold and the gap between the door. we will have to put a hardwood plinth along the bottom of the door so that the bottom edge of the door is also sealed and closes the gap under the door. With the plinth being installed this will also have a seal installed to finish the seal around the door.
